Shaun Ferneley, our certificate holding surgeon, has a particular interest in orthopaedic surgery and has, through additional training and experience, gained a level of expertise in this area. Several of our other vets also do some orthopaedic surgery.
We are able to repair most limb fractures at the practice using combinations of pins, wires, plates screws and external fixator frames. We also tackle pelvic fractures, dislocations, simple growth deformities, Achilles tendon repair and arthrodesis.
A proportion of the work of any orthopaedic surgeon is dealing with cruciate ligament disease in dogs. Shaun Ferneley perfroms a number of Tibial Tuberosity Advancement (TTA) procedures for this problem (a newer relative of the better known TPLO procedure) and also lateral suture stabilisation.
We are equipped for arthroscopic surgery have carried out procedures for Fragmented Coronoid Process (FCP - a part of elbow dysplasia) and shoulder OCD at the practice.
Shaun Ferneley is willing to accept referrals for orthopaedic surgery, but we must point out that he is not a registered specialist and there is a limit to what we can handle. We do not charge specialist prices, so this service may be appropriate for clients whose own practice cannot perform such surgery and who cannot afford specialist referral prices, but could afford ours. To use this service please contact us to discuss the case with Shaun Ferneley.
