Mark Ames BVSc CertVOphthal CertVDI MRCVS

Partner

Mark graduated from Bristol University in 1999 and joined the practice in 2001. He became a partner in 2011 and helps to run the small animal department. He also works in the farm department. Mark has special interests in ophthalmology and diagnostic imaging. He gained the RCVS Certificate in Ophthalmology in 2008 and the RVCS Certificate in Diagnostic Imaging 2012.

Mark divides his time between our Newbury and Thatcham branches.

Additional Qualifications:

Mark gained the RCVS Certificate in Ophthalmology in 2008 and the RCVS Certificate of Diagnostic Imaging in 2012.


Peter Eastwick-Field MA VetMB MRCVS

Partner

Peter first came to this practice as a 15 year old schoolboy to see whether a career as a vet would be to his liking and he was hooked from the first day.

He qualified at Cambridge University in 1986 and began working as a vet straight away. He spent six years gaining experience in practices in the south-east before returning to Newbury in 1992. Three years later he became a Partner and has been responsible for the small animal side of the partnership ever since.

He has a particular interest in surgery and diagnostic imaging though, after 24 years as a vet, he has a broad experience in all aspects of small animal medicine and surgery.

Peter may be seen at our Newbury, Tadley or Thatcham branches.


Shaun Ferneley MA VetMB CertSAS MRCVS

Partner

Shaun graduated from Cambridge University in 1995 and worked in mixed practice in Kent and Surrey before joining the practice in 2002. He became a partner in 2011 and helps to run the small animal department. He has a special interest in small animal surgery, especially, but not limited to, the field of orthopaedics. He has undergone additional study in this field and performs a number of advanced procedures. Shaun is willing to see surgical referrals from other practices. He also works in our farm department.

Shaun may be seen at our Newbury, Tadley or Thatcham branches.

Additional qualifications:

Shaun gained the RCVS Certificate in Small Animal Surgery in 2006.


Julian Slater BVSc DBR MRCVS

Partner

Julian is one of the senior partners of the practice. His main work is within the farm department, where he undertakes the bulk of the work. He also has significant experience with small animals.

Julian sees small animal appointments at our Newbury and Thatcham surgeries.


Joe Binfield BVetMed MRCVS

Assistant

Joe graduated from the Royal Veterinary College, London in 2011 and joined the practice in August 2011. He works in the small animal department and is keen to expand his skills in general small animal veterinary work.


Samantha Loane MA VetMB MRCVS

Assistant

Sam graduated from Cambridge University in 2011 and joined the practice in 2011. We have known her at the practice for much longer than this as she is a local girl and saw practice with us for a number of years whilst doing her training.



Hannah Mirfin BVM&S MRCVS

Assistant

Hannah graduated from Edinburgh University in 1999 and joined the practice in 2004 after working in mixed practice in Lincolnshire. Hannah has a special interest in anaesthesia and is currently working towards the RCVS Certificate in Anaesthesia. She is also one of our Nurse Training Supervisors.

Hannah may be seen at our Newbury, Thatcham or Tadley branches.


Bella O'Connell BVSc MRCVS

Assistant

Bella joined the practice in 2008. She is currently attending a course on Small Animal Emergency Medicine and Critical Care.

Bella divides her time between our Newbury and Tadley branches.

Emma graduated from Bristol University in 2002 and joined the practice in 2006. Emma has a special interest in surgery and is currently working towards the RCVS Certificate in Small Animal Surgery.

Emma divides her time between our Newbury and Thatcham branches.


Hannah Ward BSc (Hons) BVMS MRCVS

Assistant

Hannah qualified from Glasgow University in 2005. She works in the small animal department and joined the practice in August 2010.


Nicola Blaney RVN A1 MBVNA (Practice Head Nurse and Senior Small Animal Nurse)

Nurse

Nicola joined the practice in 1998 where she trained and gained her RVN qualification and has enjoyed being a part of this growing practice throughout the years.

She has gained many roles during her time at the practice and in 2003 she was hugely involved with the exciting challenge of setting upthe new Tadley sister practice.

She has gained her A1 qualification and is involved with mentoring trainee nurses throughout their VN training.

She has now gained Head nurse status within the practice and heads a team of 27 nurses in both the equine and small animal departments, as well as running the day to day running of the Small Animal department. This role requires a lot of understanding and organisation to ensure it's a happy team.

Outside of work she enjoys doing some fun agility with Harry, her rescued boarder collie, whom has also become a part of the practice and is often found relaxing under her desk.


Jane Cottrell PHC Cert SAN DipAVN(Surgical) RVN MBVNA (Senior Training Nurse)

Jane started working at the Practice as a Trainee Veterinary Nurse in 1987. She qualified in 1990 and continued her work at the Practice, gaining the City and Guilds Certificate in Small Animal Nutrition in 1992. In 1996 she gained the Diploma in Advanced Veterinary Nursing (Surgical) and left to work as a lecturer in Veterinary Nursing and Animal Care at Berkshire College of Agriculture. She achieved the D32/D33 Assessor Awards and the City and Guilds Further and Adult Education Teaching Certificate. At this time she began working as an Examiner for the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons Veterinary Nursing Practical Examinations, later becoming a Senior Examiner. Jane returned to the Practice in 1999 and continues to work as a Senior Nurse with responsibilities for training Student Nurses and running the Tadley branch of the Practice. She became a Pet Health Counsellor in 2009 and has a particular interest in feline medicine. She recently achieved the Feline Advisory Bureau Advanced Award in Feline Friendly Nursing (Distinction).

Katherine Badcock RVN C-sqp, MBVNA

Nurse

Katherine worked at another local veterinary practice as a Veterinary Nurse before joining us and is fully qualified. Her previous role included both Equine and Small Animal nursing. Katherine also does canine behaviour courses for owners, including puppy classes and 'growl classes' among others.

Katherine has recently joined the team in January 2011 and her affable nature and previous experience has meant that she is already a well liked and key member of the nursing staff.

In her spare time she is a casual runner, likes to walk her dogs, Ivy and Oscar, and also manages to find time for socialising.

Cherise Hunt VN

Cherise has worked at the practice for 6 years, where she has completed her Vet Nurse training and is, in her own words, "born and bred at OGSM". She is a hard-working member of the nursing team who works mainly in the small animal department, but has experience with horses.

She lives in Tadley with her husband and her naughty Border Terrier, Teabag. She enjoys running and hacking out her Islandic, Pony Robert.


Hannah Kirkham VN

Hannah has gained her qualification as a Veterinary Nurse at the practice and has been part of the team for 6 years. She completed the National Diploma in Animal Management at Hartpury before joining the practice.

Currently she lives at Thatcham with her boyfriend. In her spare time she enjoys riding her 16-year-old Pony, Jake, whom she enters in show-jumping events.. Mocca her Working Cocker Spaniel and Lilly her Jack Russel are her daily companions.


Abby McKay VN

Abby is a part time nurse, who is always met with a smile on her face. She has been working for the practice for 10 years, where she completed her Veterinary Nurse training. Before working for the practice she obtained her National Diploma in Equine Horse Management & Business Studies and enjoyed riding out racehorses for a number of years.

She is happily married, has two children and lives in Lambourn with her cat, Oscar, and her dog, Wiggle. Leisure is filled with quality time with her children and playing in a Flyball team with her dog Wiggle.

Jenny is one of our trainee Veterinary Nurses, who joined the practice in 2011. Before joining the practice she worked as a Event Planning Assistant and she studied tourism management in Aberystwyth.

She lives in Hungerford with her 'Batman' James, who is a bat conservation volunteer, where they are proud owners of cat Macey and several bats. In her free time Jenny enjoys running and occasionally she will challenge herself with a 10k run.

Jess re-joined the practice summer 2011 after spending time at B&W Equine Group and has started her training as a Small Animal Veterinary Nurse. 

She lives in Thatcham and likes hacking out with her horse and playing with her dog Evie, who is with her on the image.


Lucy Mapplebeck

Lucy joined the team in February 2010 and is now at college in Sparsholt College doing her first year of Veterinary Nurse Training.  Her training is principally in Small Animal Nursing but she has a keen interest in Equine Nursing and horses in general.

Outside work Lucy loves sailing on her father's yacht, she has a dog called Jarvis, a giant rabbit, chickens and a hamster called Ginger Muffin. 


Michelle Yorke

Michelle joined the practice in December 2011 and will be starting her training as a Small Animal Nurse in autumn this year. She has mainly worked with horses before and has valuable experience ranging from dressage to endurance or stud work.

She currently lives near Kingsclere with her boyfriend Oli and lots of pets including fish, mice and chickens. To balance out work she rides and cooks. She generally likes to be outdoors and describes herself as a proper country girl.

Karen has joined the team in August 2011 and is working part time in Reception and Kennels. Her interest in animals expanded working at Cats Protection.

She lives in Curridge,  is married and proud owner of 2 cats and 3 dogs, with whom she does lots of dog training.

Linda worked in the horse racing industry before joining the practice in 1998.

Linda is married with two sons and five grandchildren and spends all her spare time looking after her rescue dogs Connie & Seb.

 


Claire Dyson

Claire is a great plus to the team when she workes her part time on evenings at the Front Reception since 5-6 years. She is a legal solicitar assistant. 

She is freshly married since October 11. In her free time she is a keen Amateur Dramatist, which involves singing and dancing and likes to be outdour and play Golf.

Laura has worked for the practice at our Donnington Surgery since 2003.

She lives in Thatcham, is married with a young daughter and has three cats.  Laura is also a Parelli student with qualifications in Natural Horsemanship.

Tracey has been with the practice for over 17 years and currently works at both our Newbury and Thatcham surgeries.

She is married and has two children, lives on a trout farm and has qualifications from Sparsholt College in Agriculture and Dairying.

Although working full time at Donnington Grove Reception since about 10 years, you find her always in a brilliant mood. She has done a qualification in Computer Studies at Oxford Brooks.

Newly happily married she lives in Newbury.
